Focus of Meditation
The yoga / meditation classes offered through the Mind and Heart Lab are aimed at reducing stress and increasing emotional resilience. The meditation component is formulated from the scientific foundations of contemplative practice, yet simplified for accessibility for those with little or no experience in these practices. The meditation is guided, allowing participants to easily shift into deeper states of awareness, and consequently reduce their stress levels, create a greater sense of calm, and establish a higher baseline of happiness and emotional resilience. The practices are based on intentional affect, meaning they are aimed at developing life affirming emotional states, or heartfully engaged emotional states, such as gratitude, hope, empathy and compassion. Research has shown that intentionally cultivating positive emotional states reduces stress, anxiety and loneliness, and increases positive outlook, perceived wellbeing, and an overall sense of happiness and self-worth.
